"Battle of the Badges" Blood Drive
The Porter County Sheriff's Department and the American Red Cross are
sponsoring the sixth annual
" Battle of the Badges" blood drive against
the public safety agencies of Lake County. The blood drive will be hosted at
the
Porter County Expo. Center from 12pm to 6pm on Wednesday, June 11th.
Free food will be available at the event. It is dedicated in memory of Chief
Gary Martin. Everyone
is welcome. Please come show your support for
Porter County public safety agencies and donate blood. You can
reserve your time by calling 1-800-give life for an appointment or just
walk-in.

Valparaiso Walmart
May is National Electrical Safety Month. Amps & Volts Electric will be
providing
electrical safety education and information at their website
www.ampselectric.com. Representatives from Amps & Volts Electric also
have teamed with the Valparaiso Wal-Mart’s Safety Team for their Safety
Month, which is June, to provide information about electrical safety to
their customers. On June 14, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (or
while supplies last), individuals visiting the Valparaiso Wal-Mart will
receive FREE Electrical Safety Checklists and AFCI and Tamper Resistant
Receptacle information; there also will be Electrical Safety Coloring books

Diabetes Presentation

Through funding from NWICA (Northwest Indiana Community Action) Porter
County Aging & Community Services will host a presentation on “DIABETES
PREVENTION, SIGNS AND TREATMENT” by Donna J. Doty, MSN, RN, CDE, Clinical
Nurse Specialist, Porter Hospital. This program will discuss the types of
diabetes, the risk factors, the various treatment options, and more. There
is no charge for this presentation and it is open to the public. Snacks and
beverages will be provided. All participants will be entered into a drawing
for gift cards to local businesses. If interested, you must RSVP to Melissa
Benefiel at Porter County Aging & Community Services at (219) 263-8300.

Scavenger Hunt to Help Veterans
11:00 a.m. - Noon, Rain or Shine
VFW Post 988, Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso
American Veterans Motorcycle Riders Association invites the Community to our
first fundraiser. This event is open to the public and any ages. Motorcycles
and Cars/Trucks welcome! Come help us raise money to help Veterans, Soldiers
and their families! The cost is $10 per person. Bring your camera (cell
phones work great!) and a bag to carry the items you find. You must turn in
your items and your papers by 4pm back at the VFW post! Spaghetti will be
